Much has been learnt after one semester of learning about effective communication. Most importantly, I have picked up some skills with regards to the cartoon strip posted above.
Miscommunication has indeed been a factor that has contributed to the misinterpretation of information at almost all levels of my life. Through this course, I have learnt various ways on how to put the intended messages across to my peers, tutors and family members in order to avoid miscommunication.
The 7Cs of communication had since been deeply embedded in me after this semester. This is especially so when I have to send out electronic mails to external organisations and several people under my charge in my Co-Curricular Activity. I was being labelled the "harsh e mail senders" by my fellow peers. After this course, I realised that it is especially important to be polite and courteous in our daily interaction with people around us. In this way, all parties will be much satisfied and more will be gained from the communication processes.
Furthermore, much has also been taught about the verbal aspect of communication. On a daily basis do we communicate verbally and I feel that I have gained insights on how to deliver my speeches and further improve my oral communication skills in this short 12 weeks or so.
The art of non verbal communication intrigues me the most. From the days serving National Service till now, I have been always been fascinated by the non verbal cues of human beings. They translate to many useful messages in enabling one to decipher the feelings, thoughts and many much more of another party.
In this course, I also had the opportunity to craft memorandums, letters and various means of written communication. The most memorable experience in this module is the part whereby I had to complete a research survey together with my two other classmates. Many skills picked up in lessons were being put to good use during the course of the project.
Through the various assignments which include cover letters, resumes and a mock interview, I had the opportunity to put the theories of effective communication to good use.
Overall, this module has benefitted me tremendously and made me realise the importance of effective communication in my daily undertakings with others.

We have certainly learnt numerous lessons in different aspects of verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills. We have gained valuable insights on working as a team. Being a team player was important whereby we had to contribute actively during project discussions in order to foster new ideas. Great job!
I am intrigued by non-verbal actions too! I am curious about the psychology behind these actions and it would be fun to interpret these non-verbal cues and speculate the person's thinking.

I have to agree that the module has benefited everybody tremendously and has made us realize the importance of effective communication in our daily undertakings with others. It was a great experience learning Professional Communications and the skills learnt during the course would be very helpful in future.
During the module, the opportunity to learn how to write memorandums, letters and various means of written communication would probably be the most beneficial as we are reaching the end of our education and this would come in really handy for us.

Non verbal cues can lead us to many details about one's thinking. We can learn more about this through books and websites!
Learning is a continuous process and we should learn as we go along in our lives. Keep on learning!
