Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. The term "Ramadan" comes from the word ramd, which means "to burn". Fasting during this month is often thought to figuratively burn away all sins. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset.
In my primary school days, my clique consisted of a Muslim, whom we know him as S. S would still sit around with us during lunch breaks, even during the Ramadan period. Though it was a period of time which S found it hard to abstain from food during the day, he still stayed with us in the canteen while we have our meals.
After the fasting month, S talked to us about the significance of Ramadan and how important this month is to a Muslim. S also commented that he sat with us during lunch breaks as he was afraid of being labelled as a social outcast.
At that point of time, we felt sorry that we did not consider his feelings as a Muslim. However, at that age, we just could not understand what did we do that made him think that way.
As we age, we began to realise that the Ramadan month is an integral month in the Muslims' religious practise. We should consider the feelings of Muslims' when we ask them out for meal breaks, as some of them would want to remain in their own comfort zones. In addition, eating or drinking in front of Muslims during the fasting month should be avoided, as we should be sensitive and receptive towards their feelings.
In a multi racial society in Singapore, much understanding and tolerance towards the cultural behaviours of different ethnic groups would minimise inter-cultural misunderstandings and conflicts. Therefore, we should try to be much more receptive and understanding towards the practices of various religious and ethnic groups so as to maintain our reputation as a safe and secure country with zero tolerance towards inter racial conflicts.

Potential Topic for Research Project
Description
Both staff and students in the faculty of science will usually take service no. 95 to Buona Vista MRT station. During the evening peak hours, many have to wait for an average of 20 minutes to get up the bus. This has been an increasing concern for most staff and students of science.
Figure 1 depicts the bus stop concerned.

Through experience, the frequency of the service is about 20 minutes in the evenings. This is not enough as there is a substantial number of students and staff ending their day at around this time and will like to leave for home. Having to wait at least 20 minutes for a bus, it is frustrating for staff and students alike.
Figure 2 depicts the problem of getting up bus service 95.

I believe that the service provider, Singapore Bus Service (SBS) should deploy more buses at regular intervals so as to solve this problem.
Problem Statement
The objective of this study is to analyze whether deploying more buses will solve the problem of the long waiting time for service no. 95.

Purpose Statement
The objective of this report is to inform NUSSU and SBS of the long waiting time for bus service 95 during evening peak hours.
Another objective is to convince NUSSU to appeal to SBS to deploy more busses during evening peak hours.
An attitudinal survey will be done to investigate if students and staff of the fauculty are waiting for a long time for this bus service during the evening peak hours. In addition, questions regarding possible soulutions and average waiting time for the service will be asked.
A possible solution is to request NUSSU to bring up the problem to SBS and to cater for a bus service that only plys from the Kent Ridge Terminal, to science and to Buona Vista MRT station. Another solution is to request SBS to deploy more busses at regular intervals during evening peak hours so as to allow staff and students to board the bus without a long wait.
