Both staff and students in the faculty of science will usually take service no. 95 to Buona Vista MRT station. During the evening peak hours, many have to wait for an average of 20 minutes to get up the bus. This has been an increasing concern for most staff and students of science.
Figure 1 depicts the bus stop concerned.
Figure 1: Bus stop concerned
Through experience, the frequency of the service is about 20 minutes in the evenings. This is not enough as there is a substantial number of students and staff ending their day at around this time and will like to leave for home. Having to wait at least 20 minutes for a bus, it is frustrating for staff and students alike.

I believe that the service provider, Singapore Bus Service (SBS) should deploy more buses at regular intervals so as to solve this problem.
Problem Statement
The objective of this study is to analyze whether deploying more buses will solve the problem of the long waiting time for service no. 95.

Purpose Statement
The objective of this report is to inform NUSSU and SBS of the long waiting time for bus service 95 during evening peak hours.
Another objective is to convince NUSSU to appeal to SBS to deploy more busses during evening peak hours.
An attitudinal survey will be done to investigate if students and staff of the fauculty are waiting for a long time for this bus service during the evening peak hours. In addition, questions regarding possible soulutions and average waiting time for the service will be asked.
A possible solution is to request NUSSU to bring up the problem to SBS and to cater for a bus service that only plys from the Kent Ridge Terminal, to science and to Buona Vista MRT station. Another solution is to request SBS to deploy more busses at regular intervals during evening peak hours so as to allow staff and students to board the bus without a long wait.

Hello Bing,
I cannot wait to find out how your survey will turn out and what it will subsequently lead to.
Personally, I do not frequent the bus service 95. Nevertheless, I have experienced waiting 20 minutes for the same bus service during the evening peak hour. I can understand the frustration in people especially when they face such situations daily since my minimal experience is enough to stir up unhappy emotions in me.
From my knowledge, NUSSU has recently aided in improvement for the bus service 151 for students by negotiating successfully for double-decked services to be offered. Compared to the previous years, I have also noticed that there is an increase in frequency of bus services 95 and 96 in the mornings, with SBS providing extra services such as 95A and 96B.
Hence, I believe that your research has the potential to make an impact, and that it is feasible for an improvement to be made.
Hi. I agree that the bus service is a big issue for me too. Being a bus service 95 user myself, it gets increasingly difficult to board a bus after the office hours.
My lessons end at six almost everyday, thus I will be "competing" with the working adults and many other students whom majority of them end their day by six.
Even after six, at around eight, when most lessons have ended, the crowd does not decrease (I wonder where does the crowd come from). In fact, the situation is worse since the frequency of bus services is reduced at this time. I have waited for almost an hour before I could get up onto a bus. Most of the time I would have to walk up to the previous bus stop with less people. I would definitely be looking forward to better bus services, especially with the increase in bus fares!
However, the crowd is only present during certain parts of the day, for example, in the morning and evening after office hours. Other than these times, there are very few passengers. Thus, I think it is difficult for SBS to keep a balance between the frequency of bus services during different parts of the day.
Nonetheless, I believe that if the research is approved, many students and staffs in NUS would benefit greatly.
I think this is a good choice of topic as simple things like frequent buses with enough seats forn everyone can improve citizens' quality of life without any major public outlay.

Dear Pei Yu,
From our survey results, it seem that most of the respondents do feel that frequency of the the bus service number 95 is lacking during the evening peak hours.
Furthermore, the evening peak hours designated by SBS Transit is from 1700hrs to 1900hrs daily. However, from the response, we found out that there was quite a handful of students who will only take bus service 95 after 1900hrs. This prompted our group to feedback to SBS Transit that they should also deploy more buses during that interval.
Extra services in 95A, 95B, 95C and 95D are only applicable during certain time slots of the day.
For 95A, it plies from North Buona Vista Rd to NUH from 0730hrs to 0930 hrs on weekdays.
95B plies from Kent Ridge Terminal to North Buona Vista Road during evening peak hours on weekdays.
95C plies from North Buona Vista Road to Lower Kent Ridge Road between 0800hrs to 1000hrs on weekdays.
95D will ply from Kent Ridge Terminal to Holland Road only at 0859hrs, 1839hrs, 1857hrs between 2315hrs and 2330 hrs on weekdays.
This would mean that the buses provided by SBS Transit is vertainly not enough for students, and other working staff during the evening peak hours. Furthermore, 95also picks up commuters from NUH. This is another concern that we had looked into.
Maybe for more details I can show you my report? It is too long to be posted here. =)

Dear Jia Yi,
I hope that we have chosen the right topic to work on.
Based on our findings, it seems that we have to increase the frequency of the bus service and maybe we could enquire if another route can be devised specially for students and staff of Science.

Dear Mrs Richardson,
We chose this topic eventually and it has been a torrid time when SBS Transit did not reply to our questions at the end of the day.
However, we managed to find certain statistics from the websites and readings. Also, the bus captains at the Kent Ridge Terminal were very friendly and told us the differences between 95A, 95B, 95C and 95D.
